01 / The Process
OD grinding runs the workpiece between centers against a precision wheel, holding roundness, taper, and size on shafts, pins, and journals. ID grinding does the same inside a bore, where a bearing race or seal has to seat on a true diameter.
Grinding is how a diameter gets to the last few tenths after turning and heat treat. It is the standard finishing route for bearing journals, precision pins, and any fit where the assembly drawing calls out microns instead of thousandths.
02 / Why It Matters
Bearing fits live or die by roundness.
A journal that is out of round hammers its bearing on every revolution. A press fit that is oversize splits its housing, and one that is undersize spins. Ground diameters put the fit in the middle of the tolerance and keep it there across the production run.

Verified before it ships
Diameters are verified for size, roundness, and taper on our Western Gage air gauge station, which measures to 10 millionths of an inch. Surface finish is confirmed by profilometer.
